Our activities are following guidelines that are found to be of benefit to encourage Stroke Survivors with their difficulties.<\/li>\n<li>Stroke Survivors to feel that they matter and are valued as members of our community.<\/li>\n<li>The Group is inclusive and we are person centred and treat everyone as an individual.<\/li>\n<li>Trips\/Events\/Guests as this is essential in the Survivors wellbeing and social contact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;2_3,1_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;2_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Objectives<\/h2>\n<p>We help them to regain their confidence in their communication whilst being supported with their difficulties after Stroke.<br \/>These difficulties are a mixture of aphasia, apraxia, communication, vocabulary and language.<br \/>We provide weekly activities and we follow suggestions of useful activities given to us from professionals to help with communication and it\u2019s also an opportunity to chat with other Survivors and our friendly volunteers with a drink and biscuit.<br \/>We look at each of their individuals needs and encourage them with their wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem.<br \/>The majority of our Volunteers understand what it\u2019s like to have lived through a Stroke.<br \/>The volunteers have previously been DSB checked and we encourage relevant training to extend their knowledge of Speech and Language difficulties and Stroke.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;||0px|||&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Background<\/h2>\n<p>We are a constituted, voluntary Group which was formed in May 2018 due to the Founder and Lead Volunteer, Liz Bedson\u2019s father surviving a Stroke. His Stroke mainly affects his speech, language and communication skills.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of his rehabilitation ending, there wasn\u2019t any support groups for Speech and Language so that is why this Group was formed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Why are we different<\/h2>\n<p>We are NOT just a social Group.\u00a0 We support individuals, 18+ who have survived a Stroke with fun activities to help develop and support them with their speech, language and communication difficulties and help them to feel safe and secure with their peers. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We are very inclusive, have a person-centred approach and many friendships have been formed. It was created by Liz Bedson after her own Father suffered a stroke. Liz personally understands the experience and has established the group to allow every participant to enjoy and challenge themselves whilst being amongst people in the same situation. The value of this group and their support is immeasurable and for Chris it gave him a target and a purpose: to walk with them on the Snowdon Challenge. Chris made a decision to secure much needed funds that will contribute towards the running of the group and support them in their valuable work. He is doing this for other people and their families knowing how difficult it is when a stroke occurs.
